East Leichhardt Dam

BW

The East Leichhardt Dam is a reservoir in the north-west of the Australian state of Queensland, which was formerly known as Lake Mary Kathleen. The name goes back to the Prussian explorer Ludwig Leichhardt. The reservoir is located on the Leichhardt River East Branch, about 25 km east of Mount Isa and about 9 km south of the Barkly Highway. He begins below the confluence of the Brumby Creek.

He was supposed to serve as an emergency hot water tank for the uranium mining Mary Kathleen, who has since been abandoned. However, it turned out that the Corella Dam was sufficient for these purposes.
