East Timor centavo coins

Although the U.S. dollar is the national currency, there are special coins of East Timor. They are issued since November 10, 2003 by the Autoridade Bancária e de pagamentos de Timor -Leste, the Central Bank of East Timor. The coins serve as a means of payment in addition to the smaller U.S. bills. According to the American designation cents, the value of the coins in the local languages ​​with centavo ( Portuguese) or Sentavu ( Tetum ) is specified. The coins were minted from 2003 to 2006. However, in 2006 there were no 1- centavo coin. Collector sets are available only from the years 2003 to 2005.

2012, a bicoloured 100 centavos coin with the image of Boaventura, the Liurai of Manufahi was published on the occasion of the beginning of the rebellion of Manufahi 100 years ago. Basis for the picture is an old photograph of Boaventura. Since 2013, the coin is issued as a regular coin in general monetary transaction.
