Eastmain Reservoir

The Réservoir de l' Eastmain 1 is a reservoir in the Canadian province of Québec. It lies on the river Rivière Eastmain and is part of the James Bay hydroelectric project.

Its water area is 603 km ², its water level fluctuates 274-283 m. The associated dam Barrage de l' Eastmain -1 has a length of 890 m and a height of 70 m. Important tributaries of the reservoir are the Rivière Eastmain and a discharge of the rivers Rivière Nemiscau, Rivière Rivière Rupert and Lemare.

Completed in 2006 hydroelectric power plant Eastmain -1 has three turbines with a total capacity of 507 MW and is located 14 km west of the dam. The neighboring hydroelectric plant Eastmain -1-A has been in operation since August 2011. It has three Francis turbines with vertical axis, which together produce 768 MW.
