Eat a Peach

Occupation

Eat a Peach is a double album with live recordings of the U.S. Allman Brothers Band. It was released in February 1972 and the last album with the recently deceased Duane Allman. The album is dedicated to him.

Formation

With the album At Fillmore East, released in July 1971 and reached number 13 on the U.S. charts, the Allman Brothers, the commercial breakthrough was achieved. The band had recorded in the Criteria Studios in Miami three songs for a next album as Duane Allman died in a motorcycle accident on October 29, 1971. Among them was Little Martha, the only song the band, Duane Allman wrote alone. For Eat a Peach additional live recordings were used from the Fillmore East, especially Mountain Jam, the lasting about half an hour improvisation on Donovan There Is a Mountain, as well as three pieces, which started the band after Duane Allman's death (Page 1 of LP). The written by Greg Allman first song of the album, Is not Wastin 'Time No More thereby reflects the defiant carry on after the loss of his brother.

Style and reception

The half of the album takes based on Donavons song instrumental improvisation Mountain Jam one, anchored in solid rock, but also gentle swirling in the clouds jazz -like improvisation. The other two live recordings are covers of Elmore James and Muddy Waters.

Tony Glover Rolling Stone holds the instrumental Les Brers in A Minor for a Meisterstück.und praises the ballad Melissa for the strong acoustic guitar and Gregg Allman's restrained vocals.

Stephen Thomas Erlewine of Allmusic gave the album five out of five stars, the band looks with this album is at its peak and holds the final played with acoustic guitar instrumental piece Little Martha by Duane Allman as a proof immense talent.

The album itself reached # 4 in the U.S. charts, the coupled Singles Is not Wastin 'Time No More One Way Out Melissa and were less successful.

The hinged cover that a truck with a huge peach on the bed and on the inside shows a fantastic landscape with mushrooms on the front, was chosen by Rolling Stone among the 100 Greatest Album Covers of All Time.
