Eau Claire is a city ( with the status of City) and the administrative seat of Eau Claire County in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. A small part of the metropolitan area extends into the Chippewa County. In the census in 2010 Eau Claire had 65 883 inhabitants.

The name of the city is the singularisierte form of the French name Eaux Claires (, Clear Water ') and refers to the River Eau Claire River.

Geography

Eau Claire is located in the central northwestern Wisconsin at the mouth of the Eau Claire River in the Chippewa River, a left tributary of the Mississippi.
