Ebenezer Obey

Ebenezer " Chief Commander" Obey ( born 1942 in Lagos) is a Nigerian musician and evangelist.

Life

Ebenezer Obey Fabiyi comes from the people of the Yoruba. He grew up in IDOGO on in Ogun State. The first experiences with the music he collected as a child and teenager in school and at various local music groups. In 1964 he moved to Lagos where he founded the band The International Brothers. Their style of music presented by the Nigerian Juju music with elements of Ghanaian highlife dar.

After the first album where I wa ohun oju mi ri was a commercial failure, Olomi Gbo Temi brought in 1966 the national breakthrough, and the group enjoyed great popularity. From 1993 to Ebenezer Obey published over 100 albums and received 30 gold and 2 platinum records in 1963. Unlike his rival, King Sunny Ade his fame rather limited to the area within Nigeria. Attempts, among other things with Virgin Records to be internationally known, associated in the 1980s with tours through England, Italy and the USA were not crowned with success.

After 30 years of musical career, Ebenezer Obey decided in 1993 to become a preacher. Obey was raised Christian; in his songs were found to process many religious subjects. Obey sees his work as a matter of the heart and determination of God.
