Ebikon

Ebikon is a municipality in the constituency Lucerne Land of the canton of Lucerne in Switzerland.

Geography

Ebikon is in the hand, showed and is a major suburb of the city of Lucerne. The municipal area adjacent the upper hand, showed also includes most of the Rotsee and the district Rathausen, which lies on the River Reuss.

In the West, the dog is back with the Sedelwald. North of it flows past the Reuss and forms the northern boundary of the municipality. The outflow of Rotsee called Ron and gives the valley its name. The Ron always flows in a northeasterly direction along the whole village, parallel to the north -flowing river Reuss. South of Ebikon rise of Hombrig ( 684 m asl ), Ebrüti (552 m asl ), Ob. Ebrüti ( 693 m asl ) and the Dottenberg ( 749 m asl ). The highest point of the municipality is the Ob. Ebrüti to 693 m above sea level, the deepest of the Rotsee to 420 m above sea level. From the municipality surface is used for agriculture 38.4 %, other 23.9 % is forested. The remaining 30.3 % is built-up area.

Ebikon borders Adligenswil, Buchenrain, Dierikon, Emmen and the city of Lucerne.

Population

The population grew until 1860 to incessantly ( from 1798 to 1860: 75.2 %). After a decline in 1870 was followed by a persistent population growth until today. Until 1910, this was rather mediocre ( 1880-1910: 57.8 %), then to 1950, moderate ( 1910-1950: 110.3 %). Then followed until 1990, an extreme growth and the municipality urbanized ( 1950-1990: 8'061 persons or 268.1 %). 12'379 people now live in Ebikon (as of January 1, 2012).

Languages

The population speaks as an everyday language a highly Alemannic dialect. At the last census in 2000 gave 86.50 % German, Serbo-Croatian, 3.02% and 2.92 % Italian as their main language.

Religions - faiths

Previously, the entire population was a member of the Roman Catholic Church. By leaving the church and immigration from other regions in Switzerland and abroad, this has changed. Today (end of 2009) it looks as follows: 61.15 % Roman Catholics, 12.72% Evangelical Protestant, and 0.18 % christian ( = old) Catholic Christians. There are also non-religious 11.16%, 14.96 % believers of other religions.

Origin - Nationality

End of 2010, the population of 12'116 9'575 2'541 Swiss and ( = 20.97 %) foreigners. The population consists of 79.03 % Swiss citizens. The rest of the population is made up as follows: Italy ( 3.03% ), Serbia and Montenegro ( 2.73% ) in addition Albanians (0.85 %), Germany (2.80 %), Bosnia - Herzegovina (1, 27% ), Croatia (1.06 %), Portugal (1.19 %) and Turkey ( 1.5%).

History

853 Louis the German gave the monastery Dame Cathedral in Zurich, which his daughter Hildegard presided as abbess, extensive lands. For this purpose, inter alia, the area belonged to the church today Ebikon. The marcha abinchova was originally the land of the Alemannic Ebo settler and his family. From " marcha abinchova " (Latin ) ( courts of Ebinger ) or Ebinkon was ( clan of Ebo ) in the local dialect Ebinkofen.

In the 14th century Ebikon was under the rule of Habsburg Austria. The city of Lucerne stretched out more and more, and from 1415 she sat in Ebikon officially a bailiff. In 1417 Ebikon received the German Emperor Sigismund, an event of which still today bears witness to the " Sigismund cross." Between 1472 and 1848, Ebikon under the sovereignty of Lucerne.

In 1805 the first school house was built and in 1819 the first elected municipal council. During the special covenant war Ebikon 1847 military occupation. 1863 the new school house was built, which still houses the school services today.

In the district Rathausen created in 1245 a Cistercian monastery, which was abolished in 1848 the course of secularization. The building was used as cantonal teacher training college from 1849 to 1867. 1883 reformatory Rathausen was established in the former convent, which developed into one of the largest children's homes in Switzerland. End of the 1980s, the home has ceased operations.

In the 1950s, Ebikon of a handsome peasant village developed into an industrial village. 1957 Schindler builds his factory for the production of lift systems in Ebikon. In 1972 the first hardware store in Switzerland was opened in Ebikon.

Policy

Ebikon, as a community of since the 18th century rather conservative Christian canton of Lucerne, is still a tribe community of the CVP. Characteristic of the overall Swiss political development but is nevertheless a strengthening of the left and right parties. The last time this was seen in 2004 with the election of the first SVP representative to the council. Currently, Daniel Gasser (CVP ) Municipal President.

Transportation & Development

Ebikon has a train stop on the railroad train to Lucerne, which opens up a part of the place for public transport. More importantly, especially for commuter traffic, however, the four bus routes. Especially the lines 22 ( Lucerne Bahnhof-Ebikon-Buchrain-Perlen/Inwil ) and 23 (Luzern Bahnhof- Ebikon - Dierikon root ) of the transport companies Lucerne. The line 27 ( Unterlöchli - Ebikon - Ottigenbühl ) and the Post Bus line 73 ( Lucerne - Adligenswil -Rotkreuz ) open up the remaining quarters.

Ebikon is on the main road Lucerne train. This is completely overloaded, especially in the peak hours. The Ebikoner voters have spoken out in February 2005 for the rezoning of an industrial area on the border with Dierikon and thus approved the construction of a national leisure and shopping complex Ebisquare. Culture

With over 70 clubs, the municipality has a wide range of recreational opportunities. Typical of Lucerne community are the numerous Guggenmusigen that occur at different occasions during the carnival. Since 1979 has Ebikon a library in which are available currently over 20,000 media.

At the beginning of 2008 the new youth house " phoenix " of his youthful users and users has been put into operation. His name " phoenix " was the childhood home of a Ebikoner Drittsekschüler whose suggestion the jury had convinced.

Education

For children and young people is in the municipality of a large range of classrooms.
