The Äbeni Flue (also Ebnefluh ) is a 3,962 m above sea level. M. high mountain in the Bernese Alps. Over its peak is the boundary between the Swiss cantons of Bern and Valais.

Description and geographical location

The Äbeni Flue forms a broad Firngipfel, which falls to the north in steep walls over 2,500 meters into the Lauterbrunnen valley. The southern slopes are glaciated and lead relatively flat on the Great Aletschfirn. To the east leads a ridge to 3'983 m above sea level. M. high glacier horn, from which a ridge continues to the northern virgin. According to the southwest ridge leads to Mittagshorn, Grosshorn and Breithorn. South over the Great Aletschfirn dominates the Aletschhorn with its powerful northern wall.

Summit routes

Plane crash

On 12 April 2007, a tornado hit the German army in a navigation flight to the north wall of the Äbeni Flue. The pilot was killed, the weapons system officer survived but was seriously injured. Investigations revealed as an accident cause human error.
