EC Kitzbühel

The EC Kitzbühel is an Austrian ice hockey club from Kitzbühel in Tyrol, who currently plays in the National Amateur Hockey League. Until the season 1972/73 the club of the Austrian Hockey League belonged to.

History

After the Kitzbühel Sports Club had been founded in 1910, followed in 1925 renaming in Kitzbühel Hockey Club and the accession to the Austrian Ice Hockey Federation. In the years after 1934 the team was integral part of the Austrian province Championship, at which clubs from all over Austria outside of Vienna participated in a number of locally organized groups, and was able to celebrate a number of successes, although winning the league title did not succeed there.

Had after the Second World War, what with the long-serving players Hans Schweinester, Frorl Oberaigner and Peter Moser Salve taken a heavy toll, the club was rebuilt and professionally organized. In the years 1949, 1952 and 1954 as well as could the ASKO - State League Championship titles are won. The title in 1952 was doing so unexpected that the pre-cut in favor of the favorites from Vienna medals had to be corrected at the awards ceremony with lime paint.

As today's Bundesliga was founded in 1965, were among the Kitzbühel from the beginning to the participants. The team played until the year 1973 eight seasons in the top division and completed their home games here on the newly constructed ice rink alive mountain. In the 1972/73 season, however, the Adler Kitzbühel occupied the last place, an increase from the league.

In the play time 1987/88 the club celebrated the title of the Tyrolean provincial champion and got back in the National League, the second- highest division, on. The following years brought a number of positions in the midfield. Only in the 1995/96 season succeeded in winning the championship, when the Kitzbühel were able to prevail in the final against the EHC Fischerbräu Vienna. In 1997, the team got back into the national league and then shuttled between this and the changing lower levels of the Austria -wide championships back and forth. In the seasons 2004 and 2005, the club dominated the league and celebrated two more championships.

Since 2005, the EC Kitzbühel is active again in the Tyrolean provincial league. On 9 December 2006, with the life of mountain stadium closed the longstanding home of the clubs and built with the sports park Kapserbrücke first time a covered arena in which the team has since then played and in 2007, after seventeen consecutive wins also the last time to win the title of the Tyrolean State Master.
