Ece Temelkuran

Ece Temelkuran (born 22 July 1973 in Izmir) is a Turkish lawyer, journalist and writer.

Life

Ece Temelkuran studied law at the University of Ankara. Since graduating from law school in 1995, she published twelve books, including the novels Muz sesleri ( The voice of bananas, 2010) and Düğümlere üfleyen Kadınlar ( on nodes blowing women, 2013). In English language appeared Deep Mountain, Across the Turkish - Armenian Divide and Book of the Edge ( both 2010). Her book Ağrının Derinliği ( The depth of pain, 2008, English 2010 ) deals with the post-genocide of the Armenians tense relations between the two nations.

She wrote as a columnist for the daily newspaper Milliyet (2000-2009) and Haber Türk (2009-2011) and hosted their own radio series on Haber Türk TV ( 2010 and 2011). She lost her job at Haber Türk for their critical articles about the handling of the Turkish government with the killing of more than 30 civilians by Turkish fighter jets on December 28, 2011 at the Turkish-Iraqi border ( Uludere incident ). For her journalistic work Ece Temelkuran received numerous awards, including the Pen for Peace Award ( 2001). Articles of her appeared in the international press, including The Guardian and Le Monde Diplomatique.

Like other Turkish journalists who criticize the policies of the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Ece Temelkuran published their articles on Internet platforms as well as in the newspaper Birgün. Her work on the protests in Turkey in 2013 have been translated into numerous languages. In June 2013 Ece Temelkuran informed at the invitation of the Labour MP Seema Malhotra in the British House of Commons about the protests at the Istanbul Gezi Park.
