Echelon Corporation

Echelon Corporation is an American technology company ( NASDAQ: ELON ) in the field of automation technology. Special field of activity is the networking of everyday devices.

The company was founded by Mike Markkula. It developed in 1990, the LonWorks platform, which is the basis of the worldwide spread fieldbus Local Operating Network ( LON). The LonWorks Platform includes, among other hardware ( Neuron Chip ) and software (programming and network management) to develop LON devices to program and to network.

In 2003, Echelon Corporation " Networked Energy Services (NES ) " presented as an open smart metering system. In Italy, the Company realized in cooperation with the largest Italian electricity company Enel the world's largest smart metering infrastructure project. In this project, approximately 27 million electricity meters are networked.

The company has its headquarters in San Jose (California ) and has offices in China, Germany, France, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Korea, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom.
