Echinopsis backebergii is a species of the genus Echinopsis in the cactus family ( Cactaceae ). The specific epithet honors the German backebergii Kakteenspzialisten Curt Backeberg.

Description

Echinopsis backebergii growing singly or forming groups. The spherical to short cylindrical, bright green shoots reach diameter of 4 to 5 centimeters. There are about 15 sharp ribs present, which are scored and arranged spirally. The areoles are initially located thereon hairy woolly and are 1 to 1.5 inches apart. From them emanate from one to eleven spines, which can be distinguished not always in central and radial spines. They are initially brown and graying with age. The slender spines are bent at its tip almost hooked and 0.5 to 5 inches long.
