Echinopsis silvestrii is a species of the genus Echinopsis in the cactus family ( Cactaceae ). The specific epithet honors silvestrii the Italian entomologist and botanist Filippo Silvestri ( 1873-1949 ).

Description

Echinopsis silvestrii usually grows singly, but occasionally branched and then form small groups. The spherical to short cylindrical shoots reach for diameters 4-8 cm plant height 5-10 inches. There are twelve to 14 ribs available. The circular areoles located on them are whitish. The single central spines is from. The five to nine spines are present on the drive surface.

The long tubular and funnel-shaped, white flowers have no scent. They open at night. The flowers are up to 20 centimeters long.

Distribution and systematics

Echinopsis silvestrii is common in the Argentine provinces of Salta and Tucumán in lower elevations of 500 to 1000 meters.

The first description by Carlos Luis Spegazzini was published in 1905.
