Eckart Schütrumpf

Eckart Schütrumpf ( b. 1939 ) is a German classical philologist who teaches as a professor at the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Life

Eckart Schütrumpf studied from 1958 Classical Philology and philosophy in Marburg and Munich, and in 1966 received his doctorate Ethos The meaning of the word in the Poetics of Aristotle at the Philipps- University Marburg with a thesis. Also in Marburg was in 1976 his habilitation in Classical Philology with special emphasis on ancient philosophy with the work The analysis of the polis by Aristotle. After working as a lecturer at the University of Marburg from 1983 to 1987 he taught at the University of Cape Town in Cape Town, South Africa. Since 1987 he is professor at the " Department of Classics" at the University of Colorado at Boulder, USA.

Research priorities

Schütrumpf has published, among others, on issues of political theory, ethics, rhetoric and poetics, namely Aristotle, Xenophon, Plato, Cicero and other authors. He is the editor of text fragments of Heraclides Ponticus. Its most important is its performance as a translator and commentator of the most extensively annotated version of Aristotle's Politics ( published in 4 volumes 1991 to 2005, representing more than 2300 pages).
