The École hôtelière de Lausanne (abbreviated: EHL ) is a hotel management school in Lausanne in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Overview

As the oldest hotel school in the world it is one of the renowned educational institutions for the international hotel and catering industry. With a total of nearly 1,400 students who come from over 80 countries, the school people in training for the Tourism Sector industry. The EHL has 300 apartments with 15 m². The Board of the students is ensured by school's own restaurants. The dishes are served in public restaurants school are prepared by students under the guidance of specialist teachers and experienced chefs. In these restaurants, there are also students who serve the meals and take care of the guests. The Lausanne Hotel School EHL is part of the University of Applied Sciences Western Switzerland.

History

The École hôtelière de Lausanne was the first hotel school in the world. It was founded in 1893. During the Belle Époque, when Switzerland experienced a boom in the tourism industry, there was an urgent need for well- trained personnel in this field at every level, from management to simple staff. The school was founded by Jacques Tschumi, a member of the Swiss Hotel Association. On October 15, 1893 27 students began their studies in the premises of the Hôtel d' Angleterre on Lake Geneva in Lausanne.

Statements

The school currently offers several types of financial statements. Training in International Hospitality Management leading to a Bachelor of Science ( BSc) and is open to high school seniors who have general access to higher education in their country of origin. A diploma program is also offered for candidates with professional backgrounds.
