École nationale supérieure des industries chimiques (ENSIC, Nancy)

The École Nationale Supérieure des Industries Chimiques ( ENSIC ) in Nancy / France is a grande école of Engineering in the field of chemical engineering.

It currently has about 400 students and is part of the Institut National Polytechnique de Lorraine ( INPL ) ( National Polytechnic Institute of Lorraine ), which comprises the seven engineering colleges in Nancy. She is considered one of the best universities in their field in Europe.

Five laboratories are connected to the ENSIC:

  • Laboratory of Chemical Engineering ( Laboratoire des Sciences du Génie Chimique - LSGC )
  • Laboratory of Thermodynamics of multiphase systems ( Laboratoire de Thermodynamique of Milieux Polyphasés - LTMP )
  • Laboratory of Macromolecular Physics ( Laboratoire de Chimie Physique Macromoléculaire - LCPM )
  • Institute of Physical Chemistry of the reactions ( Département de Chimie Physique de la Réaction - DCPR )
  • Center for Chemical Engineering of complex systems Rheological ( Centre de Génie Chimique of Rhéologiquement Milieux Complexes GEMICO )

History

The ENSIC was founded under the name " Institute Chimique de Nancy " in 1887, with the intention to supply the then fast growing chemical industry with trained engineers.

One of the first professors, Victor Grignard received the 1912 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his invention of organo- metallic compounds ( Grignard reagents ).
