Ecolinguistics

The ecolinguistics language considered under the aspect of interaction: Just as in ecology, the interaction between organisms and between organisms and the environment is examined, the ecolinguistics explores the interaction between languages and between languages and their environment, ie the society in which they are used. A pioneer of ecolinguistics ( ecology of language) was an American linguist Einar Haugen, who introduced in 1972 the aspect of interaction in sociolinguistics and psycholinguistics.

Another pioneer is now living in Australia Englishman Michael Halliday, who for the first time brought into the discussion in 1990 at a lecture in Thessaloniki the subject of language and the environment. His question was: To what extent linguistic structures and peculiarities of texts to the environmental problems involved? Can language help to alleviate environmental problems - for example, by raising awareness of various anthropocentric terms?

Today in the ecolinguistics in vermehrtem extent, economic considerations are involved. Questions to be asked are, among others: How much does linguistic diversity - and what makes a country? How many jobs will it create? What can the deliberate use of language to resolve conflicts? How can the linguistic diversity of the world remain - and there is a connection between language diversity and peace?
