Ecotone

An ecotone (also Saumbiotop or edge habitat ) is in the ecology of a transition region between two different ecosystems. Often these are particularly rich in species and have a higher biodiversity than the sum of the species that occur in adjacent areas.

For example, offer ecotones between forest and open land, that is hems, a large number of ecological niches. A typical example is the mangrove forest, which represents a transition between land and water ecosystem. Other examples are forest edges, hedgerows and riverbanks.
