Ecphonesis

The Ekphonesis (Greek ἐκφώνησις: " exclamation" ) as a rhetorical figure, an exclamation in a speech. In the Byzantine rite the Ekphonesis is a section of the doxology, which is recited with increased voice. For the music this Ekphonesis there is a special notation system.

In Western music corresponds to the Ekphonesis the Exclamatio, a character from the Baroque musical figure doctrine, which is a symbol of an exclamation. It is characterized by a large interval jump ( almost always a sixth ).
