Ed Emberley

Edward Randolph Emberley (born 19 October 1931 in Malden, Massachusetts) is an American painter, author and illustrator.

Life and work

Emberley studied art at the Massachusetts School of Art in Boston, and received his Bachelor of Arts with the emphasis painting and illustration. After a two-year interruption by military service he completed his studies at the Rhode Iceland School of Design. Since 1960, Emberley has been working as a freelance artist.

Emberley made ​​illustrations for numerous children's and non-fiction. He has also written various characters even books like My First Sign Book ( Ed Emberley 's Drawing Book), in which he gives kleinschrittige instructions for partly complex images from simple shapes children.

Since 1955 Emberley is married to the librarian and author Barbara Emberley, with whom he has jointly published several books. The couple has two children.

Awards
