Ed Sullivan

Edward Vincent "Ed" Sullivan ( born September 28, 1901 in New York City, New York, † October 13, 1974 ) was an American entertainer and known as host of the Ed Sullivan Show. The TV show reached the top in popularity in the late 1950s and early 1960s.

Life

Originally Sullivan was a sports reporter and wrote articles about stage plays. Norman Z. McLeod filmed in 1938 under the title millionaire gone astray ( There Goes My Heart ), a story based on Sullivan's narrative.

In 1948 he got a weekly late night show on Sunday night, in which more talents like Elvis Presley or the Beatles in the Ed Sullivan Theater occurred. Many stars were indebted especially her performances in this show a popularity boost, including Diana Ross with the Supremes, the Jackson Five, but also musicians like The Doors, Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane and the Rolling Stones appeared on the show.
