Eddie Mustafa Muhammad

Eddie Mustafa Muhammad ( born April 30, 1952 in New York as Edward Lee Gregory ) is a former American professional boxer and union official.

Career

Muhammad gave his debut in 1972 and boxed initially mainly in the middleweight division, where he was defeated twice on points, among other things, against the Weltklassemittelgewichtler Bennie Briscoe.

After his ascent to the light heavyweight division he defeated the highly assessed Matthew Saad Muhammad and requested the Argentine Víctor Galíndez on 19 November 1977, in Italy for the WBA title out. Galíndez beat him on points and had him even on the ground. In 1978, he defeated the undefeated James Scott.

On March 31, 1980, he received his second title opportunity. After a strong performance he struck the southpaw Marvin Johnson ko and thus secured the WBA heavyweight title. He defended successfully twice, then made a trip to the heavyweight, the cruiserweight division was not yet established, where he lost to the undefeated Renaldo Snipes on points.

On 18 July 1981, he faced the undefeated Olympic champion Michael Spinks and lost his title on points. In the initial stage, he dominated, then, however, his condition became noticeable problems. Spinks then dominated the second half of the fight and knocked him to the ground.

In 1982, he defeated Lottie Mwale and 1985 Ricky Parkey. On 21 December 1985 he again fought in Italy against the undefeated Slobodan Kačarum the vacant IBF title and defeated on points. Then he trailed off his career. His last few fights he competed in 1988.

A trainer, union JAB

After his playing days, he worked as a trainer, among other things, Iran Barkley and tried with limited success in interaction with the Teamsters union to launch the boxers jab. His opinion was heard even with the new legislation.
