Edern, Finistère

Tetrahedra is a commune with 2125 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the western region of Brittany. It belongs to Canton Briec and the Local Government Association Pays Glazik.

Geography

Springs situated in a hilly and partially characterized by bocage country south of the Regional Natural Park of Armorica in the Pays Glazik at the foot of the ridge of the Montagnes Noires ( Black Mountains ), about 50 kilometers southeast of Brest, about 20 kilometers east of the Atlantic coast, 15 kilometers northeast of Quimper and about 15 kilometers southeast of Châteaulin, between the neighboring communities Briec in the West, Langolen the southeast and Gouézec in the north.

History

The village was named after the Breton saints springs and first mentioned around 900.

1793 tetrahedra received the status of a municipality and in 1801 the right to local self-government in the wake of the French Revolution ( 1789-1799 ).

Attractions

The chapel Notre- Dame-de- Lannien was built in the 16th century, the bell tower was added in 18th century.

The chateau de la Boixière belonged in the 19th century Hallier family. The ornamental garden of the castle was established in its present form in 1897. Palace and gardens are privately owned.

The Chapel of Saint -Jean- Botlan was built (around 1118 to around 1312) in the 16th century on a former estate of the Knights Templar. It was entered into the Register of Monuments historiques additional (historical monuments ) 1976. The chapel is further classified as a site Classé and its surroundings as a site Inscrit.

The Calvary Saint- Maudez from the 15th century is the only remnant of a former monastery. In 1791 he got into community property. In 1886 he was sold together with the chapel of the monastery. The Pietà of Calvary was taken to the Museum of Quimper. Some statues have disappeared, but the Crucifix in the center has been preserved. The Calvary was in 1956 in the Additional List of Monuments historiques registered ( inscrit MH).

Traffic

The D72 runs through the community and ends in Briec. In Briec there is a departure on the European road 60 (Nantes - Brest). In Quimper and Châteaulin there are regional stations. In Quimper and Brest are regional airports.

  • Jean- springs Hallier ( born March 1, 1936 in Saint- Germain -en- Laye, † January 12, 1997 in Deauville ) was a writer and was buried in the cemetery of tetrahedra.
