Edertalschule Frankenberg

The Eder school is a traditional school in Frankenberg ( Eder). It is located in the southwestern part of the district Waldeck -Frankenberg in Hesse, and is the only high school in the old district of Frankenberg, whose catchment area it covers today. Due to this fact, it is, despite the rather rural location, one of the largest high schools in Hesse.

History

The school is located, except for some new buildings, in the buildings of the Teachers' College founded in 1904, where it was renamed in 1922, initially under the simple name " junior high school " and in 1925 was rechristened " Eder school". In the heyday of the city of Frankenberg in the Middle Ages and the school system began revive. Already in 1254 a priest Arnoldus is known as a schoolmaster looked at the Latin School in chronicles, emerged from some students became famous. Among other things, the chronicler Wigand Gerstenberg, the physician and botanist Euricius Cordus or the humanist and neo-Latin poet Helius large Eobanus Hessus. With the laws of the Prussian elementary school system then came the educational breakthrough when all students were taught exclusively by trained teachers in seminars from now on. As of 1903, construction began on the new seminar and later school building, in which the students moved on 9 January 1904. Thus Frankenberg was briefly until 1925 university location for the training of teachers. As of 1922, in parallel, from the Teachers' Training College, a state junior high school, in the student after seven years of primary school were taken to the High School before it was finally converted into a nine-step full gymnasium. With a short interruption, as in 1944 a Wehrmacht hospital from Grodno was moved into the premises of the Eder school, Frankenberg has since been on a full-fledged high school.

Since 2002, the Eder valley school is excellent by the Land Hessen as a special school for music and is funded accordingly. It has a youth orchestra in grades 7-12, special orchestra classes from the 5th year with it aufbauendem youth orchestra, several choirs and a Big Band and graduated with these ensembles already numerous national and international performances. Among other things, in the Esterházy Palace, the Martin -Luther- University Halle- Wittenberg, the Little Opera Bad Homburg, the Congress Palais Kassel or at a concert tour in the U.S. state of Wisconsin. The latter took place for the second consecutive year of Sheboygan from place where the students lived with host families.

In the field of natural sciences much emphasis is placed on experimental work and regularly with various projects on youth research competition. The Eder school is part of the STEM Excellence Center Network, offering for example a physics AG middle school, an astronomy AG, various math competitions as well as a Young Engineer Academy in cooperation with the Viessmann Werke and the Technical University of Central Hesse.

Furthermore, there is an educational lunchtime supervision with Mensa, homework help, entertainment and special education in small groups. In addition to numerous sports AGs, for example, in fun sports, has the Eder school has a large and well-developed theater group which presents numerous regional and national performances. In a large library with library and PC workstations also provides the Eder school their students a space for research and educational purposes.

Friends of

In 1993, the " Friends of the Eder Valley School" founded and operated since then as sponsors for educational matters. The association has 300 members, sees itself as a link between school and parents and has worked through its financial support, among others, the construction of the choirs and orchestra.
