Edmund Castell
Edmund Castell ( Castle or even Latinized Castellas; * 1606 in Hatley, Cambridgeshire, Cambridge † 1685) was an English orientalist.
Castell wrote the lexicon heptaglotton ( in one volume in 1686 or in two volumes, in 1689 published posthumously ), which (ie the known Semitic languages ) comprises the basis of the Hebrew tribes the entire vocabulary of the Hebrew, Chaldee, Syriac, Samaritan, Ethiopic and Arabic. As an appendix he gave at a detailed scale dictionary. The work, in particular the Syrian part, until the beginning of the 20th century was in use.
