Eduard Daege

Eduard Wilhelm Daege ( born April 10, 1805 in Berlin, † June 6, 1883 in Berlin) was a German painter, director of the Berlin Academy and the National Gallery in Berlin.

Life

Born in Berlin on April 10, 1805 Edward Daege studied in 1820 at the Berlin Academy under Johann Gottfried Cute and from 1823 in the studio of the court painter Wilhelm Wach. He was probably in 1821 also involved in the painting of Schinkel's Schauspielhaus am Gendarmenmarkt. Along with Karl Eduard Biermann 1832-1833 he undertook a journey to Rome and Naples.

Since 1835 member of the Berlin Academy, Daege 1838 Teacher of the signs and antique class. 1840 appointed Professor, he participated in the murals at the New Museum and in the chapel of the Berlin City Palace. From 1861-1874 he headed the Berlin Academy, which also included the management of the newly founded National Gallery in Berlin.

Eduard Daege died on 6 June 1883 in Berlin.
