Eduard Ivanov

Eduard Georgijewitsch Ivanov (Russian Эдуард Георгиевич Иванов; born April 25, 1938 in Moscow, Russian SFSR, † January 15, 2012 ) was a Russian ice hockey player (defender).

Career

For the 1955/56 season the defender began his career at Chimik Woskressensk. Two seasons later, he joined Krylia Sovetov Moscow and then in 1962 to the then elite club HK CSKA Moscow. Here he remained until 1967, then he moved again for another three seasons to SKA MWO Kalinin. Overall, he scored 40 goals in 300 games in the Soviet League and won in 1963, 1964, 1965 and 1966 with CSKA Moscow the Soviet Championship title. He was appointed to the team of the Soviet national ice hockey team early on. On January 1, 1959, he was in a game against the United States for the first time for the Sbornaja on the ice. His international career was crowned with the gold medal at the Olympic Winter Games in 1964. For the national team, he scored 16 goals in 79 internationals. He was four times with his team world champion (1963, 1964, 1965 and 1967). In 1963 he was inducted into the "Russian Hockey Hall of Fame". On March 29, 1967 he played his last international match.
