Eduard Knoblauch

Eduard Knoblauch ( born September 25, 1801 in Berlin, † May 29 1865 ibid; Complete name Carl Heinrich Eduard Knoblauch, spelling Karl ) was a German architect.

Life

Eduard Knoblauch was the grandson of the silk manufacturer Johann Christian garlic (1723-1790), son of a silk manufacturer Carl Friedrich garlic (1765-1813) and brother of the silk manufacturer Carl Friedrich Wilhelm garlic ( 1793-1859 ). He studied at the Berlin Academy of Architecture (1818 Surveyor examination, 1822 Kondukteurprüfung 1828 architect exam ).

He was co-founder in 1824 of the architect association in Berlin, on whose board he remained until August 1862. Associated with this activity was the role as co-editor of various magazines that established the beginnings of the trade press for architects in Germany. Also worth mentioning are:

  • Architectural album; Redigirt by architect -Verein zu Berlin by Stiller, garlic, salt mine, Strack; Potsdam, 1840-1849
  • Journal of Construction to 1880: ed. under Mitw the Royal. Technical construction deputation & the architect Association in Berlin, Berlin, 1851-1931

After finishing his studies, he traveled to Germany and Holland in 1828. Together with his friend, Friedrich August Stiller and the Dresden architect Woldemar Hermann (1807-1878), whom he had met in Berlin, he traveled then 1829/1830 to France, Switzerland and Italy.

In 1830 he settled as the first private architect in Berlin. He wanted so the dominant role of Karl Friedrich Schinkel in the state Construction missed.

In 1845 he was appointed a member of the Academy of Arts.

Disease associated with disability and the surrender in 1863 was prevented in a mental hospital, that he could take over the execution of his main work, the New Synagogue. He was replaced by Friedrich August Stiller joined.

The opening of the New Synagogue did not live to garlic; He died on 29 May 1865 in Berlin.

His sons Edmund (1841-1883) and Gustav (1833-1916) and his grandson Arnold garlic were also worked as architects.

Eduard Knoblauch was buried in the St. Mary and St. Nicholas Cemetery I am Prenzlauer Tor. His grave stone is obtained.
