Eduardo Camaño

Óscar Eduardo Camaño ( born June 17, 1946 in Buenos Aires, Argentina) is an Argentine politician and served from 31 December 2001 to 1 January 2002, just two days President of Argentina.

As on 21 December 2001 Fernando de la Rúa resigned after economic and political turmoil by the Office of the President, the Vice President was, after the Argentine Constitution actually need to assume the office of President. The Vice President Carlos Alvarez but he resigned in October 2000 and since then this post was vacant. The next in line was therefore under the Constitution Ramón Puerta, Chairman of the Senate. However, he was overwhelmed with this task from the beginning and was glad when he was handed over the presidential sash from Adolfo Rodríguez Saa on December 23.

This could no longer hope for the support of the people and by his own party after just one week. At a meeting convened by him meeting all Peronist provincial governors on December 30, 2001 was attended by only six of fourteen governors. Disappointed traveled Rodriguez Saa to San Luis and explained from there his resignation.

As Ramón Puerta, Chairman of the Senator chamber had no interest to again become interim president, Eduardo was Camaño as president of the Chamber of Deputies on 31 December President of Argentina. On the first day of the new year, Eduardo Duhalde was elected as the new president. He thus became the fifth President of Argentina in just 13 days.
