Edvīns Šnore

Edvīns Snore ( born March 21, 1974 in Saulkrasti ) is a Latvian film director and screenwriter.

Snores family comes from Kuldīga (German gold rings ). He went to secondary school in Riga. During the upheaval in the Soviet bloc, he sympathized with the Latvijas Tautas Fronte ( Latvian People's Front ). He studied political science he graduated in Norway. 2013 doctorate Snore at the University of Latvia with a thesis on the Western European attitude to Holodomor ( " the Ukraine bada Tema Rietumu publiskajā telpā 20.gs. 30.gadu Sakuma ").

Known worldwide was the Latvian filmmaker with the documentary The Soviet Story. More than ten years collected the material studied political science before he was able to premiere his film in 2008 in the European Parliament. The Soviet Story provoked violent reactions, especially in Russia, it was condemned in politics and the media as a concoction. For the British The Economist this counted as a kind of " Oscars " for the multi-award -winning " exciting, bold and uncompromising " movie. In other Eastern European countries were the reactions full of praise. At film festivals Snore received several awards.
