Edward Ernest Swanstrom

Edward Ernest Swanstrom ( born March 20, 1903 in New York City; † August 10, 1985 ) was a Roman Catholic priest. He was Auxiliary Bishop of New York and Titular Bishop of Arba.

Life

Swanstrom came as the son of Gustave and Mary ( Cronin ) Swanstrom to the world. He graduated from Fordham University and attended by a BA In 1924, the Seminary of St. John's in Brooklyn. His priests He was ordained on June 2, 1928. 1933 he graduated from the New York School of Social Work and a doctorate in 1938 in Fordham.

From 1947 to 1976 he was executive director of the Catholic welfare organization Catholic Relief Services.

On September 14, 1960, he was called by Pope John XXIII. appointed auxiliary bishop in the Archdiocese of New York and Titular Bishop of Arba. The pope personally gave him on 28 October of the same year, the episcopal ordination. Co-consecrators were the Papal Almoner, Archbishop Diego Venini, and the Bishop of Imola, Benigno Carrara.

Swanstrom attended all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council as part of a Council Father.

On 20 March 1978 he was entpflichtet of age.
