Edward Harrison Compton

Edward Harrison Compton ( born October 11, 1881 in Feldafing on Lake Starnberg (Upper Bavaria), † March 6, 1960 ) was a German landscape painter of English descent.

Life

Edward Harrison Compton received his training with his father Edward Theodore Compton and attended the Central School of Arts and Crafts in London. He then returned to Bavaria and traveled Tyrol, Northern Italy, Germany and England. How thrilled his father of the Alps, he initially followed his artistic role model as a painter of high mountain views. As a result of polio, which he suffered with for 28 years, he had to find his motives for paintings and watercolors with architecture and landscapes in more accessible areas of the Bavarian and Northern Italian promontory ( Berchtesgaden, Trento, Lake Garda).

Light and shadow techniques, sunny look through the beech woods, autumnal moods on the border of water and forests, and generally morning and evening scenes were his favorite subjects. Also, quaint towns views show the diversity of the artist.

Compton held his motives firmly in drawings, watercolors and oil paintings. He lived for a time in Potsdam, and in Würzburg, but returned to his homeland to Upper Bavaria. Artistic works were his brothers and sisters the flowers and still-life painter Marion Compton and the flower painter Dora Keel - Compton.

1907 was first published in a series of his works in the Munich Kunstverein ( by the Karwendel and Lake Garda, Kaiser Mountains, "Ghost wrought in Kufstein " and many others). Other exhibitions followed, including at the Royal Academy in London, Bradford and Berlin.
