Edward L. O'Neill

Edward Leo O'Neill (* July 10, 1903 in Newark, New Jersey, † December 12, 1948 ) was an American politician. Between 1937 and 1939 he represented the State of New Jersey in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Edward O'Neill attended the public schools of his home and then served 1919-1923 in the United States Navy. He then worked in his hometown Newark real estate business. At the same time he began a political career as a member of the Democratic Party. In 1934, he ran unsuccessfully for Congress yet.

In the congressional elections of 1936, O'Neill was in the eleventh electoral district of New Jersey in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Peter Angelo Cavicchia on January 3, 1937. Since he has not been confirmed in 1938, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until January 3, 1939 while the other New Deal legislation of the Federal Government were adopted.

In the years 1939 and 1940, O'Neill was a lieutenant in the Reserve of the United States Navy. During the Second World War he was in the years 1942 and 1943, a captain in the Quartermaster Corps of the United States Army. From 1940 to 1945 he sat in the Tax Committee of Essex County. He also worked as a broker in Newark. Edward O'Neill died there on 12 December 1948.
