Edward L. Sittler, Jr.

Edward Lewis Sittler Jr. ( * April 21, 1908 in Greensburg, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, † 26 December 1978 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician. Between 1951 and 1953 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

In the year of his birth attracted Edward Sittlers parents with their little son to Uniontown in Fayette County. Later he attended the local public schools. Then he studied until 1930 at Brown University in Providence (Rhode Iceland ). Between 1931 and 1937 he worked as an ice cream vendor. From 1934 to 1937 he was a member and from 1936 Chairman of the School Committee of the city of Uniontown. Since 1937 he worked in the insurance industry. During the Second World War, he served 1943-1946 in the Ordnance Corps of the United States Army. He reached the rank of captain. Politically, Sittler joined the Republican Party. From 1948 to 1951 he was mayor of Uniontown.

In the congressional elections of 1950, Sittler was the 23rd electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he succeeded the Democrat Anthony Cavalcante on January 3, 1951. Since he has not been confirmed in 1952, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until January 3, 1953. This was marked by the events of the Korean War.

After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Edward Sittler again worked in the insurance industry. Between 1960 and 1972 he was a member of the State Board of Republicans in Pennsylvania. From 1968 to 1971 he was leader of the opposition in the District of Fayette County. He died on December 26, 1978 in Pittsburgh, and was buried in Uniontown.
