Edward Peter Cullen

Edward Peter Cullen ( born March 15, 1933, Philadelphia ) is Bishop Emeritus of Allentown.

Life

The Auxiliary Bishop of Philadelphia, Francis James Furey, ordained him deacon on 23 September 1961 and the Archbishop of Archdiocese of Philadelphia, John Joseph Krol, ordained him a priest on 19 May 1962.

Pope John Paul II appointed him on 8 February 1994 as Auxiliary Bishop of Philadelphia and Titular Bishop of Paria in Proconsolare. He received his episcopal consecration of the Archbishop of Philadelphia, Cardinal Anthony Joseph Bevilacqua, on 14 April of the same year; Co-consecrators were John Patrick Foley, president of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications, and Francis Bible Schulte, Archbishop of New Orleans.

On 16 December 1997 he was appointed Bishop of Allentown and introduced into the office on 9 February of next year. On 27 May 2009, Pope Benedict XVI. its age-related resignation.
