Edward Wakefield (politician)

Edward Wakefield ( * 1845, † 1924) was a New Zealand journalist and politician. From 1866 he was private secretary to the New Zealand Prime Minister Edward Stafford and Cabinet Secretary. Later he turned to the newspaper business and was editor of the Timaru Herald. In addition, he wrote editorials for newspapers Otago Daily Times, New Zealand Times and The Press.

In the years 1875-1881 he was the deputy of the constituency Geraldine in the New Zealand Parliament. After that he was Colonial sekretary in the government of Harry Atkinson, but after just one week failed on a vote of no confidence. In the election period from 1884 to 1887, he represented the electoral district of Selwyn.
