Edward Wojtas

Edward Wojtas (* March 1, 1955 in Wólka Modrzejowa in powiat Lipski in the Masovian Voivodeship, † April 10, 2010 in Smolensk ) was a Polish politician, Marshal of the Sejm in the Lublin Voivodeship since 2007 and deputy in the Polish parliament, the Sejm.

Life

In 1979 he finished his studies at the Faculty of Economics of the Maria Curie - Skłodowska University in Lublin. Since 1976 he was a member of the Polish United People's Party ( Zjednoczone Stronnictwo Ludowe ), then he joined the Polish Peasant Party ( Polskie Stronnictwo Ludowe, PSL) a. Since 2005, he stood at the head of the board of the PSL in the Lublin Voivodeship.

From 1995 to 1997 he was deputy director of the health department in the Lublin Voivodship. From 1997 to 1998 he worked as Director General of the Office. From 1998 to 2007 he was councilor in the Parliament of the Lublin Voivodeship. On 2 December 2002 he was appointed Marshal of the Sejm of Lublin Voivodeship. This decision was annulled by the voivode and Edward Wojtas lost the function on 11 January 2003. He was on 23 May 2005 re- Marshal of the Sejm of the province and held the post until December 1, 2006.

In the Polish parliamentary elections in 2007, he won a seat as a deputy of the PSL. In the electoral district of Lublin, he received 8375 votes. Without success, he stood as a candidate in the European elections in Poland in 2009.

On April 10, 2010 Wojtas belonged to a Polish delegation headed by President Lech Kaczyński, who was to travel on the occasion of the seventieth anniversary of the Katyn massacre to the memorial to Russia. However, in a plane crash of the delegation near the military airfield Smolensk - North he came together with other high-ranking representatives of Poland died.

Posthumously Wojtas was awarded on 16 April 2010 the Commander's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta ( Krzyż Komandorski Orderu Odrodzenia Polski ).
