Edwin Theodor Saemisch

Edwin Theodor Saemisch ( born September 30, 1833 in Luckau, † September 29, 1909 in Bonn ) was a German ophthalmologist.

Saemisch in 1858 received his doctorate at the University of Berlin for Dr. med. Subsequently he was assistant to Albrecht von Graefe in Berlin and Alexander Pagenstecherstraße in Wiesbaden. The habilitation was made in 1862 for Ophthalmology in Bonn.

In 1867 he was associate professor of ophthalmology at the University of Bonn and director of the University Eye Clinic. In 1873 he was appointed full professor.

Family

He was married to Sieglinde (Linda ) Ranke ( 1848-1891 ). She was the daughter of the professor of Theology in Marburg Ernst Ranke and Theodora ( Theoda, Oda ) Wet ( 1812-1860 ) in Halle in turn daughter of Professor Christian Friedrich Nasse ( 1778-1851 ). The couple had one son:

  • Contributions to normal and pathological anatomy of the eye. Leipzig 1862
  • Manual of the entire ophthalmology. 7 volumes Index Volume, 1st Edition, 1874-1877. As the editor, together with Alfred Graefe. The second edition comprises 15 volumes in about 37 partial volumes. It contains, inter alia, the famous story of ophthalmology of Julius Hirschberg ( Bd.12 -15 in part 9 volumes).
  • The corneal ulcer serpens and its therapy. A clinical study. Bonn 1870
