Egg timer

A kitchen timer, egg timer, kitchen timer or Signaluhr is an alarm clock for everyday use, the short periods of time, typically up to 120 minutes, measure and display an acoustic, optical or mechanical signal. The display is a countdown to the end of a preset period or as elapsed time since start of measurement.

Use

A typical application in the household is the enforcement of cooking times, the course is indicated by a beep. Many of these watches are provided with a thematically appropriate design (chicken, peppers or similar) for use in the kitchen. Timer can also be provided with an electrical switching output. This allows for use in laboratory setups, as laboratory clock in the private photo lab or to control a hobby kiln.

They are offered with a simple mechanical movement or with a quartz movement. Especially for boiling eggs the hourglass is in use.

Egg Timer

The colloquial term egg timer for short-term instruments probably goes back to the common use in time-critical boiling ( eg eggs ).

Hourglasses were formerly filled with quartz sand, to the need for special treatment, but now with feinkugeligen glass beads.

That the concept Hourglass, therefore comes that often relevant eggshell crumbs is trickled through the nozzle in a glass flask a myth, however, finds himself on the verge of books about watches.

The " EggTimer " calculated using a mathematical formula of Werner Gruber, the cooking time for desired consistency of an egg.
