Egglestone Abbey

Egglestone Abbey was a Premonstratensian pin in County Durham in Yorkshire in the UK. It was dedicated to St. Mary and St. John Baptist.

History

Egglestone was probably founded in 1190 by Ralph de Moulton as a daughter house of Easby Abbey. In the system still maintained today shows no signs of significant construction work by the 13th century. This is probably due to the fact that the pin of devastation in the wake of the Scottish invasion of 1315 and subsequent military countermeasures never recovered properly again. The cloister was built around 1195 and was in the 13th century a new west wing. The cruciform collegiate received in 1250 a new chancel, transept chapels were something added later. By 1300 the nave was extended to match the choir.

The pin was removed in 1540 during the Reformation. The overall system can still be seen in ruins today, best, larger parts of the church were preserved, including the great east window, which Maßwerkgestaltung gives great mystery, as it is in the construction period for any other correspondence.
