Egid Quirin Asam

Quirin Asam Egid ( baptized September 1, 1692 in Tegernsee, † April 29, 1750 in Mannheim, Germany ) was a German painter, plasterer and sculptor of the late Baroque.

Life

After his apprenticeship with his father, the painter Hans Georg Asam, his first independent work was the construction of the monastery church in tube 1717. Egid Quirin worked mainly with his brother, the architect and painter Cosmas Damian Asam together. So they created 1723/1724 in just one and a half years, the frescos and stucco of the Freising Cathedral.

After Quirin Asam Egid had settled in Munich, he succeeded in 1729-1733 to acquire several properties located next to his home land. He built from 1733 together with his brother Cosmas Damian there, the Church of St. Johann Nepomuk, which is considered one of the most important buildings of the two main representatives of the southern German late Baroque.

Asam most recently worked in the residence Mannheim to the stucco decoration of the castle and in the painting of the Jesuit church. During the Second World War, all these works Asam have been destroyed in Mannheim.
