Egidijus KÅ«ris

Egidijus Kūris ( born October 26, 1961 in Vilnius) is a Lithuanian lawyer, constitutional law, Judge at the European Court of Human Rights, Professor, former President of the Lietuvos Respublikos Konstitucinis Teismas.

Life

Kūris graduated in 1984 the Faculty of Law, Vilnius University, where he worked as an assistant and lecturer in sociology of law until 1994. He received his doctorate in 1988. Later Kūris was one of the founders of the Institute of International Relations and Political Science of Vilnius University and its director until 1999. Between 1993 and 1997 he was a speaker at the Constitutional Court. In 1999 he was Kūris judges of the Constitutional Court and in 2002 president of the court. Since November 2013 he is a judge at the European Court of Human Rights.

Family

Egidijus Kūris is the son of the international judge Pranas Kūris. Egidijus Kūris is married twice. With his first wife, the lawyer Vilija Gražulytė, he has two children. His second wife is an economist.

In the fall of 2006 came about a civil proceeding in the media, in which he was defendant because of maintenance claims. The applicant Vilija Gražulytė tried to enforce legal action against Kūris maintenance claims his living with their children.

Awards

The President of the Federal Constitutional Court Hans -Jürgen Papier handed over to the President of the Lithuanian Constitutional Court Egidijus Kūris the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany during a visit of the delegation of the Lithuanian Constitutional Court of the Federal Constitutional Court from 14 to 16 November 2006.
