Egmond Half Marathon

The Egmond Half Marathon ( PWN Egmond Halve Marathon official name ) is a half-marathon in the resort of Egmond aan Zee on the North Dutch North Sea coast, the second weekend takes place in January each year. The Erstaustragung was held in 1973; so the race is one of the oldest in Europe over this distance. The organizer is the club Le Champion, the dead also aligns the Dam Damloop. The program also includes a quarter marathon (10,5 km).

The course is challenging in several respects. On the one hand represents the wintry weather is a challenge, on the other hand runs the course after he has 5 km through the town, 7 km along the beach to the south and then returns to nature trails through the dunes around to the starting point.

With over 10,000 runners, the running event has become one of the largest in the Netherlands.

2010, there were a novelty, as in the 37th edition of the race was canceled shortly before the start. The reason the organizers stated that the local aid organization Geneeskundige Hulpverlening bij Ongevallen s ramps ( GHR ) have no longer able to guarantee an adequate supply for runners who need medical help, because of the extreme winter weather.
