Egnach

Egnach is a municipality in the district of Arbon in the canton of Thurgau in Switzerland. It is located in Upper Thurgau.

Geography

The municipality Egnach located on the shores of Lake Constance, between Arbon and novel horn. It includes 18:50 km ², of which 16.4 km ² cultivated land, 0.75 km ² of forest and 2.8 km lake access are. Egnach divided into several localities, hamlets and farmsteads. The largest are Neukirch, Egnach, stones Brunn, Book, Hegi and winches.

History

In 8/9 Century cleared the Alemanni the Egnacher part of Arbon forest. Some allow place names suggest that the area was previously inhabited by the Celts and Romans. The Egnacher jungle was crossed by the Roman military road that led from Arbor felix ( Arbon ) to ad fines ( Pfyn ). Until 1798 the municipality belonged to the diocese of Constance. 1460 conquered the Old Confederation Thurgau. Henceforth the Egnacher were not only the diocese of Constance owe obedience but also the bailiff in Frauenfeld. At the beginning of the 16th century, the Egnacher could reform. 1727 Egnach got its own church and was thus able to solve Arbon. 1798, Thurgau was an equal Canton of the Swiss Confederation. The current boundaries date back to 1857. 1869, the railway novel horn -Rorschach was built; Egnach received a railway station. 1910 was followed by the construction of the line of the Bodensee- Toggenburg -Bahn, today SOB ( Südostbahn ) with other stations in Neukirch, stones Brunn and winches.
