Ego

Ego, ( Greek and Latin, I '), is the sense of self, self-confidence and self- activity in psychology, philosophy, sociology, religion and other sciences.

Description and interpretation

The word ego is used quite rarely in the sciences, such reference on the analysis of dyadic relationships ( dyads ) between ego and alter ego in sociology. In philosophy, the use of the term ego instead of I is more common. Ego and ego are synonyms. There are no attempts to conceptually distinguish between ego and ego.

The term ego instead of I is common in Western esotericism, which distinguishes the ego as the center of the personality from the higher or true self. In German translations of Buddhist texts, the term ego is also common.

The word " ego " is also used colloquially to denote a man of great self-assurance: "He has a big ego ." This means that a person of itself, of its value, and possibly its meaning is very aware, but can negatively also mean that he attaches itself too high and too rigid self-definition has.

This description can be value-neutral, descriptive, but can also lead into a negative meaning: to characterize a person as selfish as a man who consciously his personal interest or unconsciously always in the foreground of his actions, the only on without consideration for fellow human beings its advantage is considered.
