Eguenigue

Eguenigue ( formerly Egelingen German ) is a town in the French department of Territoire de Belfort in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Eguenigue is located on 360 m, approximately seven kilometers northeast of the town of Belfort ( a straight line ). The village is located in the northern part of the Burgundian Gate, on the plateau south of the Forêt de Roppe near the Vosges mountains, to the brook, the Ermite.

The area of ​​2.49 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the landscape in the northern part of the Burgundian Gate ( trouée de Belfort ). The main part of the area occupied by the wide area at the base of Forêt de Roppe. This is drained by the Ermite south to Autruche. The plateau is on average 360 m and is used predominantly agricultural arable and meadow land. To the north, the municipality's area extends in the hilly area of the Forêt de Roppe. On the heights of the Bois d' Eguenigue, the headwaters of the Ermite, the highest elevation of Eguenigue is achieved with 461 m.

Neighboring communities of Eguenigue are Anjoutey in the north, Menoncourt in the east, the south and Phaffans Roppe in the West.

History

Is first mentioned Eguenigue in 1307 under the name Hagueligues. First, the control of the Lords of Montbéliard standing, the village mid-14th century came under the suzerainty of the Habsburg dynasty. It belonged to the rule Rougemont, but also had other dominions possession in the field. Together with the Sundgau Eguenigue came with the 1648 Peace of Westphalia to the French crown. Since 1793, the village belonged to the Department of Haut -Rhin, however, remained in 1871 as part of the Territoire de Belfort as opposed to the rest of Alsace in France. In the first half of the 20th century Eguenigue was served by a railway line, which ran from Belfort to Rougemont- le -Château, on the French railway network. Since 1997 Eguenigue part of the community association Communauté de communes du Tilleul. Ecclesiastically the village of Phaffans depends.

Population

With 271 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Eguenigue one of the small communities of the department of Territoire de Belfort. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (1901 204 persons were still counted ), was re- recorded a population growth from the early 1970s until the early 1990s.

Economy and infrastructure

Eguenigue was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village.
