Ehndorf transmitter

The transmitter Ehndorf, also known as Neumünster station is a medium-wave transmitter of Media Broadcast GmbH. Location is Arpsdorf in Schleswig -Holstein.

Construction

As a transmitting antenna is a directional antenna consisting of two 65 meter high steel lattice towers with triangular cross section are used. The directional radiation is necessary to avoid mutual interference with a transmitting on the same frequency medium wave transmitter in about 1360 km away, Novi Sad ( Serbia).

History

The transmitter was in November 1967 initially with 600 kilowatts of power on the frequency in use. For this purpose, strong tube station two 300 kilowatts were used, which were connected together to 600 kilowatts. With the entry into force of the Geneva wave plan in 1978 the frequency was changed slightly on 1269 kHz.

The station was renewed in 1986 for 6.5 million German marks, which today would be approximately 5,477,042 euros.

From 1967 to 1994, the German -language program of the Germany radio for listeners in East Germany in the former GDR and in the evening hours of foreign language programs in Danish, Dutch, English, Norwegian and Swedish was broadcast for listeners in North West Europe during the daytime hours. On 1 June 1993, the foreign-language channels of the Germany radio were taken over by Deutsche Welle, which reduced shipments from Ehndorf enormous. On 1 January 1994, the foreign language programs accounted for completely and today it is around the clock transfer the program of the Germany radio.

In 1995, the output of 600 kilowatts was reduced to 300 kilowatts. Installed in 2005 Transradio a new 800 kW transmitter ( TRAM 800 ), the transmitting power was increased never above 300 kW.

The transmitter Ehndorf to be shut down December 31, 2014 after a demand of the KEF, which provides for the shutdown of all medium-wave and long-wave transmitter of public- service broadcasters. As an alternative receive path for radiated from here sea weather DAB and the Internet is considered.

Others

Due to the good propagation conditions on the North Sea and on the Baltic Sea, the transmitter Ehndorf is also used for broadcasting of sea-weather. For this purpose, daily at 1:05 clock, clock 6:40, 11:05 clock, during the summer time also broadcast at 21:05 clock sea-weather forecasts instead of the Germany radio.
