Ehrenfried Patzel

Ehrenfried Patzel (Czech: Čestmír Patzel ) ( born December 2, 1914 in Karbitz, Bohemia, † unknown ) was a German football goalkeeper, who played four matches for the Czechoslovakian national team. He was runner-up in 1934.

Career

Ehrenfried Patzel first played in his hometown Karbitz. In 1932 he moved to FK Teplice, one of the best clubs in the German-speaking population of Czechoslovakia. With Teplitz Patzel played from 1932 to 1936 in the highest Czechoslovak League, the biggest success of this was the fourth place in the season 1933/34.

Patzels outstanding performance earned him the appointment in 1934 by the Czechoslovak national one, to František Plánička, one of the best goalkeepers in the world, he did not come over. As a replacement keeper of the Czechoslovaks he became vice world champion in June 1934. On 2 September 1934, he debuted in Prague against the team of Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia won 3-1. Two weeks later he was in the 2-2 draw against Austria in Vienna between the posts. On 14 October, he played a half time in the 2-2 draw against Switzerland in Geneva. His last appearance in the dress with the lion on the chest had Patzel on 14 April 1935 in Prague, Czechoslovakia broke up a scoreless draw by Austria.

Ehrenfried Patzel remained until 1939 in Teplitz, then he went to Germany and played for the first SV Jena in Gauliga center. In 1942 he moved to Kickers Offenbach in the Gauliga Hesse-Nassau, where he played well after the Second World War, in the Oberliga Süd. In 1948, he ended due to an injury at age 34 his career.

Later Patzel worked as a referee in the DFB.
