Geography

Eichstegen lies about three kilometers west of Altshausen on the road from Aulendorf to Pfullendorf. The village is situated south of the main European watershed in hilly young moraine landscape.

Neighboring communities

Eichstegen bordered to the north Boms, to the east by Altshausen and Boms, on the southeast by Ebenweiler, to the south Guggenhausen and Unterwaldhausen, on the west by Hoßkirch (all district Ravensburg ), as well as Bad Saulgau in the district of Sigmaringen.

Reserves

History

The municipality was originally owned by various nobles and monasteries in the Middle Ages and came gradually through purchases and donations in the possession of the Coming Altshausen the Deutschordensballei Swabian Alsace - Burgundy.

Eichstegen: From 1162 to 1220 the city was the seat of its own local nobility. The town was first mentioned in documents in 1170 as Eigistegin, 1268 then as Ayhstegen. The village initially consisted of eight fiefdoms. In April 1318 sold Heinrich and Albrecht von Ebratsweiler a large part of the village to the German Order, which later also acquired the rest of the village.

Eichstegens history from 1806 to today
