Eight Immortals
The Eight Immortals (Chinese八仙, Pinyin Baxian ) are saints in Chinese mythology and Daoism.
Representation
The Eight Immortals are usually shown as they cross the sea with their different skills (Chinese八仙过海,各显神通., Pinyin Baxian guòhǎi, gèxiǎn Shen Tong. ).
Legend has it that each of them had a special prop. So they came to the birthday of the Queen Mother of the West (西 王母Xīwángmǔ ) into the Western Paradise (西天Xitian ).
The Eight Immortals are particularly popular because they assist people in need and fight against injustice and oppression.
They embody the eight basic living conditions: youth, old age, poverty, wealth, nobility, people, female and male.
In their hands they hold objects / treasures, the so-called "Eight Treasures" (八宝/八宝).
